Cape Codernism
These paintings are the results of my walks around my neighborhood in Provincetown, MA. Inspired by the clear sea-side light and charming architecture and foliage, I am interested in capturing an authentic version of Cape Cod. These paintings are in a Neo-Modernism style that reflect the simplicity of mid-century artists such as Milton Avery, but some also possess a more developed quality influenced by early twentieth-century Realists such as Edward Hopper. My ultimate goal with these works is to give the viewer the right amount of visual information to challenge their brains into filling in the soft-edges and with their imaginations maybe provide a narrative. This helps the viewer establish an emotional connection to the paintings and makes each piece a unique collaboration between Viewer and Artist.
